Local Employment
The following information is provided for reference only, and the Huntsville/North Alabama Chapter of the STC assumes no responsibility for its completeness, timeliness, or accuracy. Dr. Rose Norman is our Chapter Employment Chair, and she does a wonderful job of keeping our members informed of local employment opportunities. Thank you, Dr. Norman! In addition to maintaining an online Jobs Database, job announcements are sent to interested members via e-mail. If you would like to join the jobs mailing list, contact Dr. Norman. How do you find a technical communication job in Huntsville, AL?Join the STC. Research shows that only 10 - 15% of jobs are found through advertisements. Your best resource for finding a career you will enjoy is through networking. Maintaining your membership in the STC, attending Chapter meetings, and volunteering your services are all excellent ways to land that perfect job. Read your newspaper. After scouring the classified advertisements, read the business section of The Huntsville Times. Target companies in the news that are doing well and presenting a positive image. Send a résumé even if no job openings are listed. Many companies go to the résumés and applications currently on file to fill positions that are never advertised: make sure they have yours. Explore company web sites. Many companies maintain a job listing page. Find local companies on the Web from the Chamber of Commerce listings. Explore the links under the Local Employers section of this page. Local EmployersDisclaimer The following is a partial list of local businesses that employ our members. If you would like to add your employer to this list, e-mail the STC-NA Webmaster. You can find links to other local employer web sites through the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce Online Member Directory or their Cummings Research Park (CRP) Business Listing. Know what your skills are worth! Each year, a team of technical writing students conducts a salary survey for our Chapter, tabulates the results, and posts them to the Web. This is an invaluable resource that you can use as a basis for salary negotiations. The 2004 salary survey is posted at http://mortonweb.uah.edu/EHTJobs/2004_survey.htm. You can also access surveys from previous years. Career Web Sites
